I have had some back pain. Sometimes better sometimes worse. I have tried a lot of exercise books, YouTube videos, DVDs that supposedly help with back pain. Yoga, pilates. None of them helped me as much as the Foundation Training. I started with the first DVD a few months ago and it has helped me a lot to strengthen my core and teach my body how to move and hinge. I hesitated to buy the Foundation Training 2 DVD Set since the first DVD helped me a lot. Then decided that it was still much cheaper than going to a doctor or a chiropractor and got it. I am glad I did. The exercises are slightly different but better explained and with better guides thru each one of them. Now they are divided into sequences that combine different movements and teach you how to move. I really like the idea of sequencing. It challenges you in a different way and you can choose which sequence to go thru every day or how to combine them. It’s fun and very challenging if you do it right and push yourself. The second set teaches you how to do supine decompression. It’s worth it. I feel much better after decompressing myself. The lunge, the founder – you do all of them while decompressing your spine. I have the top of the line Teeter inversion table and I am hardly using it now after buying the second DVD set. It is that good. The inversion table helps me decompress my lumbar discs and it works. Foundation Training decompresses my discs (not as much as the inversion table) and it teaches me how to use my glutes and hamstrings to lift and move my body. It strengthens my hole core (anything that attaches to my pelvis). I don’t think that I will need another program for back pain. I need to read their book to see if I can learn the science behind their exercises.

Let me first start by saying I’ve purchased many things on Amazon and never write up a review because I don’t want to invest the time in doing so; however this video purchase is well worth the time. I learned of Eric Goodman and Foundation Training via Dr. Mercola. After looking up Eric’s videos on YouTube and trying a few of his excerises/stretches, I thought I’d make a small investment for what can potentially be the most helpful form of therapy for my back. (If you’re skeptical like I was, try the YouTube videos first)

I have chronic back and sciatic pain despite being a moderately athletic person who cross-trains 4 days/week. While I have found that exercising regularly and seeing a chiropractor has helped alleviate some pain, it only seems to be temporary because when I go back to work, the pain returns. I have been a dental hygienist for almost 20 years…almost everyone who works in dentistry for this length of time has shoulder, neck or back problems….we sit all day with terrible posture. For the past 15 years, I have spent thousands of dollars on different forms of therapy and have just started seeing a chiropractor again. He recently found the core of my problem and recommended certain exercises to help strengthen specific back and glute muscles. The Foundation Training videos claims to target and strengthen all the muscles to support good posture and a healthier, stronger back and to relieve pain.

I just received the DVDs a few days ago and have done at least 20-50 minutes of the video every day. I was expecting a low resolution, poor quality video but was pleasantly surprised to find the opposite. The instructions and demostrations are very easy to follow—very precise and clear and you don’t need to be in prime yoga shape to do any of the exercises. Anyone can do this and once you are more familiar with the stretches, you can do this anywhere throughout the day (which Eric recommends doing the Founder pose as much as possible). There is no equipment needed, a mat and chair is optional. The nice thing about this is that I don’t feel that I need to do the entire video if I’m short on time; even 15 minutes seems to help and you can definitely feel a real good stretch in all the right places.

It’s too early for me to say if Foundation Training is going to help completely alleviate my pain; however, I can say that it is targeting all my weak spots and seems to be helping my posture—I am already standing taller with my shoulders back. This purchase has been well worth it so far…less expensive than a visit to my chiropractor.

Highly recommend this program for those with back issues. It has helped me tremendously. I suffered from sciatica and low back pain for years and after just a week I felt relief. Great program.
