In the hands of BFF Stella McCartney, Gwyneth Paltrow is a dab hand at jumpsuit dressing: chic and effortless with that blond hair sheen that makes everything look expensive. For her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, not so much. Paltrow’s Elie Saab pink jumpsuit was enough to distract from her latest jazz hands version of a hip-hop song, Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda.
Where to start? Sure the wide legs, side ruffle and nipped-in waist should be taken in, but it’s the colour that takes things off-piste. Not quite the excellent buff of Alan Cumming’s suit on the Golden Globes red carpet, or the sugar-pink frock Paltrow wore onstage at the ceremony, it has the clash of an Elastoplast against your skin tone, the peek of the pop sock out of a ballet pump.
The moral of the story? It’s wise to avoid jumpsuits anywhere close to your skin colour – unless, that is, you want to create the full body condom look, as perfected by Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun.
