Kim is all very well but everyone knows Kanye is his own best muse. Case in point: the first Yeezy collection. Showcased in February on an army of people who might have been in one of West’s videos, the clothes – which West calls a “solutions-based” collection – are in shops, including Harvey Nichols, this week. As expected, most pieces come with a West-approved streety-but-slouchy silhouette – all the better to fit together as the “Legos” of your wardrobe, as he calls these component parts.
As well as the Lycra-based womenswear (that’s Kim’s influence right there) and unisex pieces, there are parkas with hoods, artfully bobbled grungy sweaters and oversized T-shirts. Our favourite is this set of co-ords in floppy knits, with long sleeves, all the better to pull over hands, as West is wont to do.
The rapper will no doubt be spotted in his self-designed uniform in the coming weeks because it fits the glitterati life of private jets and toddler’s tailors that they’re designed for, ie his. His fans might not have their idol’s lifestyle, but judging by the frenzy around the Yeezy Boost shoes earlier this year – Footwear News has announced that it is awarding the Yeezy trainer, which he created in collaboration with Adidas, as its shoe of the year – they will no doubt be queuing up to wear the clothes at least.
