This might just be the internet’s finest hour since this one. Because while of course we are too independent-minded to subscribe to any of that It-bag nonsense, we would be lying if we said we weren’t a bit obsessed with having a bucket bag this summer. Am I right or am I right? The Saint Laurent Emmanuelle is completely fabulous, but it is also, like, a zillion pounds. And the cult Mansur Gavriel bucket bags are sold out until August. So, spendy-fingers at the ready for the £229 Manu Atelier bucket bag.
The olive leather is our particular favourite – pleasingly Balmain, no? – but the fringed petrol blue suede is pretty awesome too. Manu Atelier handbags, designed and made in Istanbul by sisters Beste and Merve Manastir, are the latest discovery on Boticca.com. Fashion director Luisa de Paula, ex-creative director of MyWardrobe.com, has an eye for a treasure and has sourced jewellery and accessories from Japan, Switzerland, Peru, Miami and Korea, among others, making Boticca well worth an online rummage.
And the bucket bag news bulletin does not stop there: this month, Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel used the CFDA award podium, where they picked up the Swarovski award for accessory design, as a showcase for their very first clothes and shoes. The designers wore almost-matching collared dresses (one sleeveless in rose, one in rust with elbow-length sleeves) and coordinated suede mules as a preview of what Mansur Gavriel will expand into. Bucket-list stuff.
