If black is the new black, then you’d think we’d be fresh out snowclones in fashion. Wrong! Fashion is constantly evolving and it’s just up to the common man to find a way in via a few, easy tricks. This summer is no different. Prints are always a good jumping-off point which is why we were drawn to Snarkitecture x Print All Over Me, a line of pieces designed with white building materials. Think prints like floor tiles, marble and bricks. Handy if you’re into Parkour, sleeping on floors or simply bored with, say, florals. Here’s a guide to what prints you should be wearing this summer.
Floors are the new florals
Foam’s thoroughly affordable line of architecture prints are part fashion, part designed to “blend into their architectural surroundings”. This trend works because the prints are designed on a 1:1 scale. Like Temperley’s signature florals. See? They’re virtually interchangeable now.
Ducks are the new birds
Ducks will never be the new birds because ducks eat bread and fashion generally doesn’t, but you can at least have a go by wearing them when you go to bed. Topshop have a number of duck printed pieces (we like these summer pyjamas). Should the trend reverse, just say they’re birds.
Bears are the new owls
Who doesn’t like animals! Bad people, that’s who, so it’s advisable to wear your heart on your sleeve (or thighs and bum) with summer’s new mascot – the bear which is fast replacing the owl. Ideal for those with a GSOH or indeed Werner Herzog fans.
Stripes-on-stripes are the new stripes
One of life’s less-discussed certainties: you can avoid stripes all you want but they’ll get you in the end. Always. So you might as well up your style game and double up, as shown by Band of Outsiders. Another option is to wear two striped garments simultaneously, but this is way cheaper.
Wall’s ice cream is the new McDonald’s
Moschino’s infamous AW14 McDonald’s line designed with playful aplomb by Jeremy Scott showed that fashion could be fun. So it was only a matter of time before it returned to the fridge, or freezer, with Asos’s new collaboration with Wall’s ice cream. Everything in it is brilliant, but nothing more brilliant than these heels, which look like Twisters.
Constellations are the new polka dots
Another mainstay in fashion – spots, that pretty, conservative print that reminds you of dogs, lawns and summer. A more fun way to tackle this trend is on random spots, or a constellation print (to give it a loftier term), which looks set to be this summer’s menswear print.
