Please do not tell me you use face wipes. OK, you can, because I do, too – but shhh! Don’t let the beauty people know. To facialists, face wipes are the devil. Good if you can’t be bothered to do anything at all: sure, crack on. But if you want to actually remove filth, you’re looking at a cleansing balm. I have very much incorporated them into my get-home-from-work, pyjamas-on-and-cleanse ritual (turning to face wipes only on nights of intoxication). It’s really easy: they are often delivered in a tub (in solid, waxy form) into which you put your paw and smear on over your face – eyes, too. Massage with water, then wash off with a muslin cloth (or cheap flannel) and you’re golden. I’m a fan of Clinique’s Take The Day Off (£22, clinique.co.uk), which is fragrance free but powerful enough to melt away even the most tenacious make-up. Interestingly, most cleansing balms smell of the spa: Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (£39.50, timetospa.co.uk) feels particularly indulgent.
