The best fragrance for men

Historically, male fragrance has had a limited menu. Guys could walk around marinading in their own BO, slather themselves in teen concoctions that met the criteria for chemical warfare, or there was Old Spice. Thanks to metrosexuality, there are now some options between “boys in the changing room” and “grandpas who’ve still got it”. One of my favourites is Richard James Savile Row (£60, richardjames.co.uk), a superb harmony of Chinese ginger and fresh-pressed shirts. Kiehl’s Vetiver Black Tea (£24.50, kiehls.co.uk) is light yet masculine and for something punchy, go for Czech Speake’s Spanish Cedar (£105, czechandspeake.com). But, remember, they’re not Febreze – you do still have to shower.
