I don’t do fake tan – it just smells too bad. But I do rely on face bronzer. Year-round I’ll sweep on a bit of powder daily, but when the sun starts to come out, and I think I can get away with it, I’ll go for a liquid. There’s a good reason these have been around since the 80s. False tanners may have saturated the market but, for people like me, the benefit of smearing on something we can easily wash off if it looks wrong is pretty priceless. The great thing, though, is you don’t need to spend a lot. Bobbi Brown All Over Bronzing Gel (£23, bobbibrown.co.uk) feels like a classic bronzer of old and though slightly challenging to rub in, lasts all day. If you’re after something a little more sophisticated, Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer (£51, spacenk.com) will help you escape the flat look bronzers can give you using a formula that adds radiance. It’s also perfect (like many bronzing gels) for contouring.
