So it turns out I was already wearing Pantone’s colour of the year for 2015 when the big announcement came, early December. I’d had Marsala, “a naturally robust and earthy” brownish-red, drawn on to my eyelids for months (MAC’s Fluidline Eye Pencil in Earth Sign, £15.50, maccosmetics.co.uk.) But while I’d like to say I’m in flow with the marketing, um, geniuses, my early adoption of the shade probably just shows what a versatile colour it is. Flattering on cheeks, most easily worn on nails… my favourite way to wear Marsala is on the lips (like the wine). So it’s fitting that at the SS15 shows, when we saw colour return to our mouths after an almost entirely lipstick-free autumn, wine-coloured stains were in. Try YSL’s Vernis a Levres Glossy Stain (£25, yslbeauty.co.uk) if you’re feeling Marsala-ish.
